Hyperlinks don't work in email
When you click on a link in an email message in Outlook Express (or another mail client), nothing happens.
Solution
Method 1
Check that you have a default web browser configured. To make Internet Explorer the default web browser:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click on Tools, Internet Options.
- Select the Programs tab.
- Ensure that the Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser box is checked.
- Close Internet Explorer.
- Reopen Internet Explorer.
- When the message: "Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Do you wish to make it the default?" is displayed, click Yes.
To make Mozilla Firefox the default browser:
- Open Firefox.
- Click on Tools, Options.
- Select General.
- Under Default Browser tick the box Firefox should check to see if it is the default browser when starting.
- Click OK.
- Close and restart Firefox.
Method 2
Disable any third party pop-up blocking software that may be running on your computer.
Method 3
Repair the file association for hyperlinks.
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Click on Tools, Folder Options.
- Select the File Types tab.
- Locate the entry named URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol.
- Click Advanced.
- In the Edit File Type dialog box select open and click Edit.
- Ensure that the field Application to perform this action contains: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome (if your default browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer) or C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~1\FIREFOX.EXE -url "%1" (if your default browser is Mozilla Firefox.) Note that these paths may need to be modified if Internet Explorer or Firefox are not installed in the default locations. The 8-character short path needs to be used for Firefox, otherwise it will complain that it is not the default browser even though it is. Quotes are important, where specified.
- Ensure that the Use DDE box is checked.
- Ensure that DDE Message: is: "%1",,-1,0,,,,, (or "%1",,0,0,,,, for Firefox.)
- Ensure that Application: is set to: IExplore (for Microsoft Internet Explorer) or: Firefox (for Mozilla Firefox.)
- Ensure that DDE Application Not Running: is blank.
- Ensure that Topic: is: WWW_OpenURL.
- Click OK to close the dialog box and save the changes.
Applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows Me
- Microsoft Windows 2000

Thank you so much for the help. The answer is simple and straightforward. For someone not as techy, asking me questions and offering guesses dont help and it really annoying (liek in threads and forums where people are jsut too eager to reply with no help at all)
So , thanks a lot.
