How to open a rar file

A rar file is a file containing one or more files - called an archive - which have been compressed into a single file to save space. The files within the rar archive must be extracted to a folder such as My Documents or your Desktop, before they can be used. If the rar file contains a program that you want to run, it is best to create a temporary folder into which to extract the files, before you run it.

PC Updater

There is no built-in support for opening rar files in Windows. There are many archive manager programs available on the Web, some of which support the rar format in addition to more common archive formats such as zip.

There is only one program that can both open rar files and create them, and that is WinRar.

If you simply need to open rar files, but would prefer a utility that can open and create many other compressed archive types, The PC Guru recommends BitZipper or Alpha ZIP.

I am doing job. I am in domain, mean to say i dont have administrator rights, but i can have help from adminstrative team.
I was having my personal data in a folder, which i compressed using winrar. I didn't want that everyone can see this folder, so i tried to do some rights permissions on this folder, but now the problem is that even i, myself can not open this winrar file. whenever i try to open or extract , the message appears in the dialog box is " can not open the file, access denied" and " archives not found"
Even i can not copy, move & delete this winrar file.
Now i want to open this file , so plz help me in this matter.

Depending on what you need to do with your RAR files should drive your decision in which product to try. If you need to create RAR files, make sure that the product has that capability. RAR has a lot of advanced features, so while a program may be able to open the file, it may not be able to take full advantage of the RAR format.

WinMount can mount RAR files on a new drive, so that you can use files inside it directly. There is no extraction time before you use them, and you don't need disk space to hold these huge files. WinMount saves your time and disk space! ( http://www.winmount.com/Mount_RAR.html)

or decompress rar with winmount ( http://www.winmount.com/decompress_rar.h.. )
